I just turned 63 and I’m in the last few years of a 43 year career in the dental business. I’ve been lucky far beyond my own expectations and have a wonderful life with countless relationships that bring me joy and happiness.
What I wrestle with is what should I do next. I have never had actual power but the relationships I have give me tremendous influence. I fear shortly after I retire much of that influence will be diminished. I’m growing weary of helping others make money and I would like to use my influence to help people in other ways.
Those are good problems to have and your heart is in the right place wanting to help people.
This is an opportunity for you to decide and do what you’re most passionate about and built to do. I find it is usually something that comes easy for you but is hard for everyone else.
I run group coaching seminars in which men write a three-word vision statement to get unforgettable clarity about their WHY. If anything, that helps them eliminate a lot of things that don’t align with their vision statement.
For example, my vision statement is “see, say, inspire.”
Does a job or opportunity inspire? or does it expose or explain like I used to do as a journalist? If the latter two, I don’t consider it.
Get clear on your vision and the details of what to do will follow in alignment.
Necessity is the mother of invention — and reinvention. And I've learned that desperation is the mother of genius. Especially after a few of my life changes.
Hi Mark! I am not a man, but I am someone who is over 50 and am reinventing myself with my blog! Your story is so inspirational, and I am excited to read more about you. Thanks for sharing your advice 💚🙏
